You have to play at least the 7 scales required for MS All Region: Concerts Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, G, C, and F. You are encouraged to do more, especially if you would like a shot at making Honor Band.
Go here to download a copy of the scales.
Do I have to play my scales fast?
No! Play them error free and with the best sound that you can make.
Are the audition etudes hard?
The etudes are similar to what you did for Middle School All-Region Band. We want you to show us what you really can do by preparing a playable etude in a short period of time. We will also have recordings of the etudes posted and other helpful information on the Auditions page.
What is Fish Camp?
Fish Camp is an opportunity for incoming Freshmen to work in small groups with the THS Field Commanders and Section Leaders and begin learning marching fundamentals. The basics will be covered well enough that you will start Mini Camp with a good understanding of marching fundamentals and some experience in doing them. You will also get a chance to get to know the band’s leadership.
I’ve never marched before - will the upperclassmen pick on me?
No. The upperclassmen have been new-marchers before and understand the apprehension of freshmen. Everyone in the band is committed to helping every freshman feel welcome and confident.
Do I have to come to Mini Camp?
Yes, Mini Camp is a required part of the marching season.
Do I have to attend the THS Drum Camp?
If you are a percussionist or play a double reed instrument you need to attend Drum Camp. We use this time to make instrument assignments and begin working on the field show music. If you are not there you will not get a part.
Are there other camps that I can attend that will help with marching?
Yes! Sam Houston State University has a New-Marcher Camp that is wonderful. See the link on the Portal page.
Should I attend a band camp this summer?
Band camp is a great opportunity to continue your musical growth, and we recommend that everyone attend a camp. See the Portal page for links to various camps.
Will I look cool in the Tiger Band uniform?
But of course!
